Choose Dark Chocolate with at Least 60% Cocoa

When we choose dark chocolate, we should not only focus on the bitter and astringe taste. We should pay attention on the percentage of cocoa. The higher the percentage, the more the flavonols the dark chocolate contains. If you want to eat dark chocolate in a healthy way, choose the one with at least 60% cocoa.

Eat Only 1 Ounce of Dark Chocolate per Day

Although there are many benefits of eating dark chocolate, it is still sweets which may cause tooth decay, obesity, and other issues. We cannot eat too much a day. Every 100 grams of black chocolate contains 24 grams of sugar. It is recommended to eat about 1 ounce of black chocolate every day, and up to about 7 ounce per week.

Choose Natural Cocoa Powder

If we buy cocoa powder for homemade dark chocolate, it is also recommended to choose natural cocoa powder, rather than alkalized cocoa powder. Dietary alkali is added to alkalized cocoa powder to reduce bitter taste. However, after this processing, flavonols in dark chocolate will be destroyed weakening the effect of anti-oxidation. Of course, some recipes indicate the use of alkalized cocoa powder, but we need to know that the nutritional value of natural cocoa powder is always higher.
