You may already know flu shot is the best way to protect yourself from the influenza virus but a lot of people believe that when they get flu shot, they get sick. Should you be worrying about the side effects of the vaccine then? The answer is no.
Any side affects you may have from the flu shot are usually mild. In some cases you may get a slight fever, which is a sign that the body’s immune system is responding to the presence of a foreign substance. Some people do get the flu after being vaccinated, but those case are basically matters of bad timing and bad luck as it takes a few days to build up your immune system after the flu jab, and even after that, the flu vaccine doesn’t offer total protection.
The most common side effect of the flu shot is just reaction at the injection site, as you may have soreness, redness, heat feeling, and in some cases, slight swelling. These effects usually only last for less than two days. To help reduce discomfort, you can try cold and warm compresses. After having the flu shot, ice the area to reduce any swelling, and then after one or two days, you can change to a warm compress to help relax the muscle and help the blood flow moving.
Some people experience headaches or aches and pain in the muscles throughout the body. This usually happens on the first day and goes away within two days. For those who get dizziness or fainting with the flu shot, the effects should not last longer than a day or two. To avoid that effect, you can try sitting for a while after you receive the shot and have a snack before or after the shot.
