Vitamins and minerals are essential to any diet. In fact, if you eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and nutrient food, you’re probably getting all you need. But for a lot of people who have busy life, vitamin supplements do offer an easy, just-in-case form of health insurance. The question is do you need them and what those tablets and capsules can actually do for you?

Calcium

Calcium can be mostly found in dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese. Our body need calcium to maintain healthy bones and prevent osteoporosis. Supplements might not be a bad idea if you aren’t a big fan of dairy product or you are lactose intolerant. But remember, don’t take more than 500 milligrams at a time, and pair them with vitamin D to improve calcium absorption.

Iron

Iron is a critical mineral for proper function of red blood cells in our bodies. When it comes to foods with the highest iron content, there are liver and organ meats. If those aren’t food that you will eat, iron supplements might help, especially if you’re anaemic. Besides taking supplement, you can also try to get iron from food like lean meats, seafood, nuts, and green, leafy vegetables.

Vitamin C

Found in citrus fruits, berries, broccoli, and green peppers, vitamin C is touted as a cure-all vitamin. Though taking vitamin C may not be as helpful as you thought to combat sniffling and coughing, it can booze your immune system especially if you’re a smoker or non-smoker who is often exposed to second hand smoke.
