Metformin HCl is a biguanide hypoglycemic agent used in the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. It is given to patients no longer responding to sulphonylureas, either alone or in combination with sulphonylurea.

Diabetes mellitus, adult and children (more than 10 years of age)- initially 500mg with breakfast for at least 1 week then 500mg with breakfast and evening meal for at least 1 week then 500mg with breakfast, lunch and evening

meals; usual dose of maximum of 2g daily in divided doses. Or as prescribed by a physician
